The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification 12th Parties Conference closed with the press conference held by the Undersecretary to the Ministry of Forestry and Water Supplies, Prof. Dr. Lütfi Akca; and United Nations Assistant Secretary General and UNCCD Executional Director Monique Barbut.

Delegations from 195 countries attended the conference which took place between 12th and 23rd October. At the press conference, which was open to foreign and domestic press members, Prof. Dr. Lütfi Akca pointed out the importance of the conference on land corruption, desertification, drought and the resulting problems, possible solutions, and ways of prevention. Prof. Akca also said that this conference would direct the 21st Parties Climate Changes Conference that will take place in December.

Ministers and delegations attended the meeting, and presidents of the round table meetings conveyed the issues discussed at the sittings; plans in order to safeguard land rights were also discussed; it was emphasized  that land corruption was not only biophysical but also the result of the human factor. One other issue was precautions to be taken in order to abate and prevent drought.
